William has a busy practice spanning a number of areas. His main practice includes commercial litigation (both led and unled), financial regulation, consumer law, group actions, procurement and EU law.
Recent instructions include acting for a Government department in a £150m dispute arising out of Covid-19 testing supplies (led by Adam Heppinstall KC), and for a German manufacturer in the NOx litigation (led by Malcolm Sheehan KC).
Before joining Chambers, William obtained a First Class LLB from Durham University and an LLM from the University of Cambridge. William was a Lord Denning and Government of Gibraltar scholar, and prior to pupillage worked on the Court of Justice of the European Union in Luxembourg and on the Indian Supreme Court in New Delhi. William speaks fluent Spanish.

Expertise
Commercial and Insolvency
William has a busy practice in both led and unled commercial and insolvency work. He has provided commercial advice to government departments, retailers, technology companies and manufacturers, all with a view to entering into or defending proceedings. Many of these matters are ongoing. William has experience advising in both written opinions and in conference, and is capable of turning advice around quickly when needed.
William continues to act as counsel for a government investment bank arising out of Covid-era loans, with a considerable insolvency element. He was instructed in the high profile aviation dispute between Qatar Airways v Airbus (led by Geraint Webb KC) which settled in 2023, and was recently instructed as junior counsel by the Department of Health and Social Care in a high profile TCC dispute relating to allegedly defective Covid-19 testing equipment (led by Adam Heppinstall KC), which settled on the first day of trial.
William accepts instructions in all commercial law and insolvency matters, including those arising in an arbitration context.

Group Actions
In line with Chambers’ practice, William is an effective junior in group actions and is ranked by Legal 500 for his work in Product Liability. He was led by Charles Gibson KC and James Purnell in the Primodos litigation, obtaining strike out in the High Court in 2023, and is currently instructed by the Mercedes-Benz Defendants in the Mercedes-Benz NOx Emissions Group Litigation (led by Helen Davies KC, Malcolm Sheehan KC and Richard Blakeley KC), which is thought to be the largest GLO proceedings currently before the English courts.

Public Procurement & Judicial Review
William has experience on both sides of procurement challenges, as well as judicial review with or without a procurement element. Most recently, William acted for a multinational in a successful challenge to its exclusion from the G-Cloud 14 Framework Agreement, with a call-off value of £6.5bn, and for a private party seeking to challenge a statutory regulator’s failure to grant a licence. William was instructed by the Department of Health and Social Care in the Bunzl challenge, led by Michael Bowsher KC.

William advises EU entities on post-Brexit FCA and PRA Regulation. In line with his EU practice, William also advises on FSMA 2000 issues and “passporting” of financial services.
William has also appeared in court successfully on a number of matters arising out of the Consumer Credit Act 1974, FSMA 2000 (including for CONC and PRIN claims), Consumer Rights Act, Sale of Goods Act and various other consumer and lending legislation. William has experience acting both for and against energy companies in consumer disputes.

William worked as a stagiaire on the Court of Justice of the European Union in the cabinet of Judge Christopher Vajda KC.
He is currently a contributor to the LexisNexis International Trade Panel, and a member of the UK Association for European Law.
William has been engaged as a junior to Professor Sir Alan Dashwood KC in two expert EU law matters: providing an expert opinion on internal market law in the context of an American trial, and an expert report on EU investment law post-Komstroy in the context of non-EU enforcement proceedings. William’s expertise in EU law covers internal market matters, assimilated EU law issues and EU investment law, among others.
British Overseas Territories
William is seeking to develop an advocacy practice in British Overseas Territories. He has advised, both during pupillage and since becoming a member, on various aspects relating to overseas territories. This includes commercial law and the application of English law in health and safety matters.
