Henderson Chambers is pleased to be a supporter of Carney’s Community, an initiative working with disadvantaged and disengaged young people to support them to be the best they can be.
Carney’s Community say “engaging them through boxing and other activities, mentoring support is then provided by a team of workers who have come through the programmes themselves. The mentoring that Carney’s Community offers is unique. Many of its beneficiaries report being ‘passed between’ different agencies (one young person had to tell his story to 40 different professionals before accessing support), which can lead to young people feeling frustrated, and disengaging from support services.”
Carney’s Community aims to reduce offending, re-offending, and anti-social behaviour, whilst improving social mobility and community cohesion. The services are targeted at disadvantaged young people aged 11-30 from deprived backgrounds in Wandsworth. The work is focused on building self-discipline, self-esteem, confidence, and employability of young people, as this is key to reducing offending and enabling disadvantaged young people to reach their full potential. The charity engages around 600 young people each year in positive and constructive activities.
