George is a commercial barrister with a particular emphasis on product liability, banking matters and group claims. He is ranked as a ‘leading junior’ by Legal 500 and is regularly instructed by major banks and FTSE 100 companies (including Barclays, Sainsbury’s, Lloyds, M&S and HSBC). He has also represented major governmental departments including the MOD, Home Office and Department of Health. He regularly appears in the High Court and County Courts (as sole advocate or as part of a team) and has represented clients at all levels, including in the Court of Appeal and Supreme Court. Expertise
Product Liability & Group Actions
George is regularly instructed in complex product liability claims and group actions. George has experience of advising and drafting pleadings in a wide number of product liability claims. He recently successfully represented the Department of Health in a claim regarding defective COVID-19 PCT testing equipment ([2024] EWHC 1071 (TCC)) and Sainsbury’s Supermarkets Limited in a claim raising allegations of manufacturing and/or design defects in refrigeration equipment ([2020] EWHC 3404 (TCC)). He has also assisted in actions concerning oil spills, defective medical devices, vaccinations and other defective products.
George has assisted with a number of notable claims brought against public sector bodies, including litigation regarding the Pandemrix vaccination (Department of Health), the Bank Mellat litigation, claims brought with respect to the Chagos Islands (both for the FCO) and various matters brought against the Ministry of Defence, including the noise induced hearing loss (‘NIHL’) claims, the Q fever litigation and various post-traumatic stress disorder matters.
George is a contributing author to the upcoming 2nd edition of Prof. Christopher Hodges’ Multi-Party Actions book.
Banking, Finance & Consumer Credit
George has an extensive consumer finance practice. He has appeared in the County Courts on a number of consumer credit matters (including unfair relationships claims, secret commissions allegations and mortgage disputes) and has represented a large number of major banks (including HSBC, Lloyds, Barclays, HBOS and GE Money) and other financial institutions (Sainsbury’s Bank, Leeds BS, Mercedes-Benz FS, VWFS and NewDay). George is the lead author of the Consumer Credit volume of The Encyclopaedia of Forms and Precedents and has contributed to the next edition of Goode: Consumer Credit Law and Practice. He currently edits Practical Law’s note on Unfair Relationships.
Prior to pupillage George worked for a firm of solicitors’ Financial Services Litigation team and a major UK bank on an on-going investigation into the manipulation of LIBOR and other benchmark interest rates. George also previously worked as an investment banking analyst. He brings a high level of commercial expertise and business acumen to his work in this field.
Commercial & Business Law
George specialises in a broad range of commercial matters. He is currently representing a number of FTSE 100 companies in major commercial disputes. His expertise draws on his experience in defective product claims and is informed by his prior career in investment banking.

Personal Injury & Public Law
George has had experience of a broad range of personal injury matters including claims for physical injury, psychiatric harm, occupiers’ liability and RTAs. George has been instructed by the Government Legal Department to act for a number of public sector clients, including the Ministry of Defence, Foreign & Commonwealth Office and Department of Health. He has recently been instructed in claims concerning sexual assaults (confidential) and physical attacks in prison. He represented the Home Office in a claim for damages under the Human Rights Act for false imprisonment arising from quashed anti-terrorism legislation.
George has assisted with a number of notable claims brought against public sector bodies, including the ongoing litigation regarding the administration of the Pandemrix vaccination (Department of Health), the Bank Mellat litigation, claims brought with respect to the Chagos Islands (both for the FCO) and various matters brought against the Ministry of Defence, including the noise induced hearing loss (‘NIHL’) claims, the Q fever litigation and various post-traumatic stress disorder matters.
Property
George’s practice encompasses a broad range of real property and landlord and tenant-related advice, litigation and ADR.
He is regularly instructed in property disputes concerning co-ownership, easements, covenants, boundaries, adverse possession and mortgages.
He is also instructed in relation to residential and commercial landlord and tenant matters, including forfeiture, possession, service charges, dilapidations, enfranchisement, business leases and agricultural tenancies.
George has recently successfully appeared in both the Court of Appeal and Supreme Court. He regularly represents parties in the tribunals, County Court and High Court.
During his time in banking George worked in both the real estate and securitisation teams. He therefore has a practical understanding of the property market.
George is a member of the Property Bar Association and writes extensively on real property related topics.

George successfully represented the tenant in the County Court, Court of Appeal and Supreme Court (led by Richard Mawrey QC). The case is now a pre-eminent authority on the construction of leasehold covenants, implied terms generally and the management of blocks of flats.

Krell v Goldswain and Ors (Unrep.)
George acted for a Defendant on an ongoing dispute arising from the collapse of a residential home in London. The case has involved proceedings in the High Court and Tribunals.

George acted in two separate sets of proceedings concerning adverse possession of farmland. Both sets of proceedings were settled before trial.

George successfully acted for a landlord in an application for the determination of breaches of certain leasehold covenants.
