George is a commercial barrister with expertise in product liability claims, banking matters and group actions. He is recognised by the directories as a leading junior in the fields of product liability, consumer finance and property litigation. George is regularly instructed by major banks and FTSE 100 companies (including Lloyds, Barclays, GE Money, M&S Bank and HSBC). He has also represented major governmental departments including the MOD, Home Office and Department of Health. He appears in the High Court and County Courts (as sole advocate or as part of a team) and has represented clients at all levels, including in the Court of Appeal and Supreme Court. Directories note that George’s written work and drafting is “exemplary”, that he is an “excellent advocate” and that he “has achieved some remarkable results.” George graduated with a first-class degree from Bristol University and a distinction in the GDL at City University. He is a Gray’s Inn Scholar. Before practising at the Bar George worked in investment banking.

George is ranked by Legal 500 as a leading product liability junior and is regularly instructed in complex product liability claims and associated group actions.

George has experience across a wide range of sectors, including pharmaceuticals and vaccines (the Pfizer/DHSC Covid-19 Vaccine litigation and the Pandemrix vaccine litigation), medical products (including allegations of defects in Covid-19 PCR and lateral flow tests), automotive and other vehicles (McLaren Automotive and the CNH group), engineering & construction (Sainsburys), consumer and personal products (The NIHL litigation) and agricultural matters.

  • Mornington 2000 LLP (t/a Sterilab Services) v DHSC

    Acting (led by Michael Bowsher KC and Brendan McGurk KC) for DHSC in four substantial connected £500 million+ claims concerning contracts for the manufacture and sale of Covid lateral flow tests (listed for trial in 2026). See [2025] EWHC 540 (TCC) and [2024] EWHC 3180 (TCC).

  • Pfizer/DHSC Covid-19 Vaccine Litigation

    Acting for the Pfizer/DHSC in the ongoing Covid-19 vaccine litigation. George also previously worked on the Pandemrix litigation.

  • Kyte v McLaren Automotive Ltd & Ors

    Acting for McLaren in a claim alleging design and/or manufacturing defects in a luxury sports car.

  • DHSC v Primer Design

    Acted (led by Adam Heppinstall KC) for DHSC in a claim concerning design in Covid-19 testing products. The matters settled at trial in 2024. It was cited as one of the Legal Business Cases of the Year 2024 (see [2024] EWHC 1071 (TCC)).

  • Agricultural (confidential)

    Acted in a number of confidential agricultural matters regarding defects in animal feed and/or other agricultural products.

  • Combine Harvester (confidential)

    Acted in series of claims alleging defects in the design of a combine harvesters and other types of machinery used in the agricultural sector.

Banking, Finance & Consumer Credit

George has been recognised by Chambers UK as a leading junior in the field of consumer finance. He has an extensive consumer finance practice and regularly appears in the High Court and County Courts for major banks (including HSBC, Lloyds, Barclays, HBOS and GE Money) and other financial institutions (Sainsbury’s Bank, Leeds BS, Mercedes-Benz FS, VWFS and NewDay).

His expertise spans unfair relationships, secret commissions, s.75 claims and FSMA actions. George is the lead author of the Consumer Credit volume of The Encyclopaedia of Forms and Precedents and has contributed to the next edition of Goode: Consumer Credit Law and Practice. He currently edits Practical Law’s practice note on Unfair Relationships.

Prior to pupillage George worked for a major UK bank in its defence to an investigation into the manipulation of LIBOR. George also previously worked as an investment banking analyst. He brings a high level of commercial expertise and business acumen to his work in this field.

  • Motor Finance Commission Claims

    George is heavily involved with both advising and representing a large number of lenders who are currently embroiled in motor finance claims arising out of the alleged non-disclosure of commissions paid by lenders to car dealerships. The actions raise matters claims under the unfair relationships provisions (ss140A-C CCA) and under the law on bribery.

  • The PPI Litigation (Group Litigation Order)

    George represented Tesco Bank PLC with respect to matters arising from the successful defence of the PPI Litigation GLO application hearing in the County Court at Birmingham.  This was the culmination of the wider PPI litigation where 100,000s of claims were issued alleging unfairness in connection with the alleged non-disclosure of commissions paid to insurers by banks. George had previously advised and represented a wider number of lenders in the PPI context (including HSBC, Santander, Lloyds, Barclays, Tesco, M&S, Bradford & Bingley, NRAM, GE Money and more).

  • Mortgage Secret Commissions

    George has been instructed by a number of lenders (including as lead counsel for GE Money) with regards to mortgage secret commission claims (see, by way of example, the appeal at [2025] EWCC 18).

  • Ouassini v Barclays Bank PLC

    George is represented Barclays Bank PLC with respect to a High Court claim valued at over £2m under s.75 CCA. George successfully applied to strike out the claim in lieu of a defence. The appeal is due to by heard in the High Court early in 2026.

  • Monzo Bank (High Court Injunctions)

    George has successfully defended Monzo Bank with regards to a High Court injunction application brought by a customer.

Commercial & Business Law

George specialises in a broad range of commercial matters. He is currently representing a number of FTSE 100 companies in major commercial disputes. His expertise draws on his experience in defective product claims and is informed by his prior career in investment banking.

Personal Injury & Public Law

George has had experience of a broad range of personal injury matters including claims for physical injury, psychiatric harm, false imprisonment, sexual offences, occupiers’ liability and more.

George has assisted with a number of notable claims brought against public sector bodies, including the Pfizer/DHSC Covid-19 vaccine litigation, the Pandemrix vaccination (Department of Health), the Bank Mellat litigation and matters arising from the Chagos Islands claims (FCO) and noise-induced hearing loss, Q-Fever claims, sexual assaults and post-traumatic stress disorder matters (MOD).

George has also represented the Home Office with regards to damages claims under the Human Rights Act, including for false imprisonment arising from quashed anti-terrorism legislation. He is also currently representing the Home Office in the Cranston Inquiry which is looking at events surrounding the sinking of a migrant boat in the Channel that involved substantial loss of life.

Property

George is recognised by Legal 500 as a leading junior in the field of property litigation. He has appeared in both the Supreme Court and Court of Appeal in a pre-eminent matter of Duval v 11-13 Randolph Crescent ([2020] UKSC 18 and [2018] EWCA Civ 2298).

His practice encompasses a broad range of real property and landlord and tenant-related advice, litigation and ADR.

He is regularly instructed in property disputes concerning co-ownership, easements, covenants, boundaries, adverse possession and mortgages. He is also instructed in relation to residential and commercial landlord and tenant matters, including forfeiture, possession, service charges, dilapidations, enfranchisement, business leases and agricultural tenancies.

George has recently successfully appeared in both the Court of Appeal and Supreme Court. He regularly represents parties in the tribunals, County Court and High Court.

During his time in banking George worked in both the real estate and securitisation teams. He therefore has a practical understanding of the property market.

George is a member of the Property Bar Association and writes extensively on real property related topics.

  • Dr Duval v 11-13 Randolph Crescent Ltd. [2020] UKSC 18

    George successfully represented the tenant in the County Court, Court of Appeal and Supreme Court (led by Richard Mawrey KC). The case is now a pre-eminent authority on the construction of leasehold covenants, implied terms generally and the management of blocks of flats. See also Duval v 11-13 Randolph Crescent Ltd. [2018] EWCA Civ 2298; [2019] Ch. 357; [2019] 2 W.L.R. 761.

  • Ms Elu v Floorweald Ltd [2020] EWHC 1222 (QB)

    George successfully applied to strike out an appeal that alleged that the trial judgment had been procured by fraud. See also Elu v Floorweald Ltd (County Court, Unrep., 2019).
