Freya Foster


Freya welcomes instructions across the full range of Chambers’ practice areas both as sole and junior counsel.

In her first two years of practice Freya gained experience in a wide range of public and private law matters, including general Public and Administrative law, Public International law, EU law, Human Rights, Personal Injury, and Commercial and Contract disputes.

At the Government Legal Department Freya represented and provided legal advice to the Home Office before moving to the Department for Digital, Culture, Media and Sport. Prior to being called to the Bar she gained experience at Herbert Smith Freehills LLP as a paralegal and was engaged as a Legal Officer in the Presidency of the International Criminal Court.

Public and Administrative Law

Freya welcomes instructions relating to matters of Public and Administrative law having spent the first two years of her practice employed by the Government Legal Department, where she dealt with a wide range of public law issues in both an advisory and contentious context.

During her pupillage Freya regularly drafted summary grounds of defence and appeared for the Government in judicial review hearings at the Upper Tribunal. On completion of her pupillage she joined Home Office Legal Advisers where she provided advice on human rights, investigatory powers, and data protection issues in response to both operational queries and judicial review challenges. At the Department for Digital, Culture, Media and Sport, Freya advised on the legal implications of proposed primary legislation.

Consumer Credit and Contract

Freya has a growing practice in the field of consumer credit. She has been instructed to represent clients in a variety of matters, including those involving aspects of the Consumer Credit Act 1974, and regularly represents major UK lenders in claims arising from the sale of PPI.

Freya also has experience in consumer contract claims, including those dealing with provisions of the Consumer Rights Act 2015.

Personal Injury

Freya welcomes instructions in Personal Injury cases and has experience drafting pleadings and advising on merits and quantum in a number of personal injury claims, including those relating to road traffic accidents and employers’ liability. She has also been instructed in road traffic claims on her own account.

European Union

Freya advises on matters relating to the law of the European Union and has experience of this field from her time at the Government Legal Department.

During her pupillage she provided research assistance on matters of EU law in relation to the Volkswagen NOx Emissions Group Litigation.

Public International Law

Freya has particular expertise in Public International Law. She draws on experience advising the Home Office on public international law matters, particularly on the application and implementation of international treaties.

Prior to being called to the Bar Freya also gained experience in the field of public international law, with a focus on treaty law and the law of international organisations, during her time as an intern, and later a Legal Officer, in the Presidency of the International Criminal Court in the Hague.

Group Actions and Product Liability

Freya has experience assisting members of Chambers in various group actions, primarily related to product liability.

As a paralegal in Herbert Smith Freehills LLP, Freya was part of the team representing the Royal Bank of Scotland in a group action relating to the 2008 Rights Issue.


Freya welcomes instructions in relation to property disputes including injunction applications, possession claims, and other procedural matters.

As a pupil Freya assisted in the production of advice in relation to the management of property, specifically in relation to the responsibility for the maintenance of utilities.



Health & Safety

Freya welcomes instructions in the field of Health and Safety having worked with senior members of chambers on a variety of health and safety matters, including criminal proceedings and Crown censures in respect of serious or fatal workplace accidents involving RIDDOR reporting, falls from height, lifting operations, and dangerous substances


Freya welcomes instructions across all areas of employment law, including those involving international organisations, on behalf of employers and employees.  Freya’s experience extends to claims involving unfair dismissal, constructive dismissal and allegations of bullying and harassment.  She has also provided pro bono representation through the Free Representation Unit.
