Ben accepts instructions in all areas of Chambers’ practice.

After studying English at Magdalene College, University of Cambridge, Ben was awarded a distinction on the GDL at City Law School (ranked 3rd in his year) and outstanding on the BPTC. He has received multiple prizes and scholarships from Gray’s Inn, including most recently the James Hunt Prize for best advocacy performance in the pupil advocacy programme.

Prior to pupillage Ben worked as a paralegal at a leading boutique litigation firm where he gained considerable experience in a broad range of commercial disputes in the High Court, Court of Appeal, and in international arbitrations. During pupillage he also undertook a period of external training at a commercial law firm based in a British Overseas Territory where he assisted with general litigation and advisory work.

 

Expertise


Commercial

As a pupil and paralegal Ben has worked on a wide range of high-value commercial maters, frequently with an international dimension. Recent examples include disputes regarding personal guarantees, contractual indemnities, fraud and unjust enrichment. Ben welcomes all commercial instructions.

Group Actions & Product Liability

During pupillage Ben assisted various members of Chambers in multiple high-profile group actions in relation to consumer rights and defective products, including the Volkswagen NOx emissions litigation.

Consumer

As a pupil, Ben assisted his supervisor in relation to various claims under the Consumer Credit Act 1974 and the Consumer Protection from Unfair Trading Regulations 2008. He also has experience of advising in relation to unfair terms in consumer contracts.

Employment

Ben has gained experience of claims across the spectrum of employment law from his time as a pupil, paralegal, secondee and FRU representative. Examples include claims in relation to unfair dismissal and redundancy, unfair disciplinary procedures, sex discrimination, harassment, whistleblowing and unlawful deduction of wages.

Health & Safety

Ben has assisted members of Chambers in a range of health and safety matters, including in relation to the Health and Safety at Work Act 1974 and Corporate Manslaughter and Corporate Homicide Act 2007.

Personal Injury

Ben welcomes instructions in personal injury cases. He has worked on a variety of personal injury matters as a pupil and paralegal, from road traffic accidents to torture claims and claims under the Law Reform (Miscellaneous Provisions) Act 1934 and the Fatal Accidents Act 1976.

Property

Ben welcomes instructions in relation to property disputes including injunction applications, possession claims, and other procedural matters.
