
Beatrice Graham is developing a broad practice across the range of Chambers’ specialisms and welcomes instructions as both sole and junior counsel. She has gained advisory and litigation experience in a number of areas, including Commercial Litigation, EU law, Group Litigation, Health & Safety, Personal Injury, Property and Road Traffic Claims. The majority of her time is currently spent as junior counsel on a significant Group Litigation.
Beatrice graduated from Trinity College, Oxford with a First in English Language & Literature. She went on to complete her professional qualifications at the University of Law and BPP Law School, joining Chambers in 2019. Prior to being called to the Bar Beatrice spent time working in the litigation departments of Bird & Bird LLP and Mishcon de Reya LLP.
Beatrice is direct access trained and is willing to accept instructions on a direct public access basis.
Expertise
Commercial and Company
Beatrice has a broad experience of commercial matters to include contractual disputes arising from a broad range of contexts (small businesses, informal arrangements between family members, agency contracts, aviation, PFI), economic tort claims, freezing injunctions and financial claims arising out of the events of the 2008 crash.
Prior to becoming a member of Chambers Beatrice had particular experience of commercial claims in the context of complex corporate trust structures and corporate insolvencies. Beatrice has recently appeared on her own account in applications in the Central London County Court for extensions of time to register legal charges and debentures and drafted statements of case in disputed invoice claims.
Group Litigation
As a pupil Beatrice spent 6 months assisting the counsel team representing the Claimants in the Post Office group litigation in which over 500 Subpostmasters have brought a claim against the Post Office in relation to its point of sale and IT accounting system.
Beatrice also assisted in research relating to questions of jurisdiction recently considered by the Supreme Court in the group litigation Lungowe and others v Vedanta Resources PLC.
Beatrice is currently instructed as junior counsel in the Volkswagen NOx Emissions Group Litigation, spending significant periods since summer 2019 on secondment to one of the Steering Committee firms.
Property
Beatrice is regularly instructed on her own account in property disputes and has particular experience of representing Housing Associations. Her experience includes injunction applications, possession claims, and procedural matters in Landlord/Tenant claims.
Health & Safety
Beatrice has experience of criminal trials of corporate defendants accused of breaches of the Health and Safety etc. at Work Act 1974 and assisted as a pupil particularly in preparing advice relating to an oil spill at a train depot and drafting an application for a preparatory hearing to determine an issue of jurisdiction. More recently she assisted a senior member of chambers in the preparation of statements of case in a claim relating to a hospital death. On her own account, Beatrice is instructed in a work-place injury claim.
EU Law
As a pupil, assisted in the preparation of the respondent’s written submissions for the Supreme Court in R (on the application of the Association of Independent Meat Suppliers and another) v the Food Standards Agency, led by Sir Alan Dashwood QC and Adam Heppinstall.
Personal Injury
Beatrice has been instructed in a number of road traffic claims on her own account and also has experience of considering the issue of quantum in a pedestrian collision claim in an advisory capacity and drafting the in a personal injury claim relating to workplace uniform. On her own account, she has recently been instructed to draft the statement of case in a work-place injury case.
Employment
Beatrice accepts instructions as junior counsel and has experience as sole counsel in the employment tribunal. She is currently instructed on a disability discrimination case.
