No evidence offered against a very large organisation represented by Prashant Popat KC
Prashant Popat KC, assisted by Oliver Powell KC of Outer Temple Chambers, instructed by Mike Grant and James Muller of Weightmans, successfully represented an international engineering consultancy in connection with a prosecution of alleged fire safety offences. The prosecution involves a number of Defendant companies tried on 16 different counts arising from a fire at a residential home.
Following detailed representations on behalf of the client in February 2025, and the service of a comprehensive Defence Statement and expert evidence, the prosecution offered no evidence, and the trial Judge recorded not guilty verdicts on all counts against Prashant’s client.
The trial of the remaining defendants commenced earlier this week at Chester Crown Court and was listed for 8–weeks. However, on the second day of trial, the prosecution again offered no evidence, resulting in the collapse of the case.
