Malcolm Sheehan QC recognised in The Lawyer’s Hot 100 2022

Henderson Chambers is delighted to announce that Malcolm Sheehan QC has been recognised in The Lawyer’s Hot 100 2022.  Malcolm was recognised both for the strength of his product liability work and for his role leading the Review of the Regulation of BetIndex Limited.

Malcolm was appointed by the Department for Digital, Culture, Media & Sport and HM Treasury to review the regulatory actions of the Gambling Commission and the Financial Conduct Authority following the administration in 2021 of BetIndex Limited, the operator of the Football Index platform.  Malcolm worked with Henderson Chambers junior Christopher Adams on the preparation of the Report under a demanding timescale.

The detailed Review set out conclusions about past regulatory conduct and made recommendations for future regulatory improvements.

“A product liability specialist by trade, Malcolm Sheehan QC’s career has been spent gaining deep knowledge of the minutiae of everyday things. His intense focus on details has seen him become one of the nation’s most trusted professionals on liability disputes, especially those involving pharmaceutical businesses.

Last year he acted on the defence side of the long-running Seroxat litigation, as well as having played a significant part in the Pelvic Mesh litigation which first kicked off in 2011.

His experience on cases that need an eye for detail saw him take on the highlight of his year. For a mandate handed to him by the Department for Digital, Culture, Media and Sport (DCMS) he tackled a review into the regulation surrounding the Football Index betting group. From instruction to publication, the investigation took just three months, which is a remarkably short time frame to assess the implications and make recommendations to the Government. Alongside chambers junior Christopher Adams, Sheehan took on the task and DCMS has announced that it will implement the vast majority of the recommendations he made. The work was a ground-breaking piece of public safeguarding and rightly earned Sheehan a spot on this year’s Hot 100 list.”
