The jury have returned verdicts of not guilty in the trial of 2 fire officers for gross negligence manslaughter. Prashant Popat QC represented 1 of the defendants, who was prosecuted following the deaths of 4 firefighters at a fire in Atherstone on Stour in 2007. The case was the first of its kind, with allegations of gross negligence against fire officers for actions in the course of their operational duty. Following a 6 week trial the jury acquitted the defendants on all counts.
