Non-legal professionals with a licence to instruct barristers
Many fellow professionals are licensed by the Bar Standards Board to instruct us directly.
For example: Members of the Institute of Chartered Accountants, Royal Institute of British Architects, Royal Institution of Chartered Surveyors, Institution of Civil Engineers, Chartered Institute of Loss Adjusters, Association of Residential Management Agents and the Institute of Chartered Secretaries and Administrators can all instruct us in relation to a matter which falls within their professional expertise.
In addition, many other organisations and companies have been licensed and a list of some of them can be found here.
Further information about licensed access can be found in the Bar Council’s Direct Access leaflet
If you regularly instruct barristers, we are able to advise on how you might be able to obtain a licence to instruct us directly. Please contact our clerks for further information.
