Hannah graduated from Oxford University with a First Class honours degree in English and French. She was awarded a Distinction for the Graduate Diploma in Law at City University, and was assessed Outstanding on the Bar Vocational Course.
Hannah joined Henderson Chambers after successful completion of her pupillage under the supervision of Adam Heppinstall, Noel Dilworth and James Purnell. She spent a month on secondment at the Brussels office of McDermott, Will & Emery, in the firm’s competition department.
During pupillage Hannah gained experience across a broad range of areas, including employment, health and safety, contract and commercial, product liability, property, and general common law. Hannah accepts instructions across all areas of Chambers’ work.
Languages: fluent French and basic Spanish.
Common Law and Personal Injury
As a pupil Hannah drafted pleadings and provided written advice concerning stress at work claims, pension rights, fatal accidents and claims under the Law Reform (Miscellaneous Provisions) Act 1934, dependency awards, harassment, and general personal injury.
Hannah assisted her supervisor in a case concerning an application made by the Legal Services Commission for a Recovery of Defence Costs Order (“RDCO”) against a convicted murderer, where such an order may prejudice prospective claims by the Defendant’s dependants.
She provided a note to leading counsel concerning the actionability of low-level damage to property in the context of a group action for nuisance.
Hannah has been instructed to represent clients in road traffic claims, infant settlements and cases arising out of breach of contract.
Commercial
Hannah has broad experience in advising on claims for breach of contract, misrepresentation, negligent misstatement, surveyors’ negligence and insurance disputes.
As a pupil she assisted leading counsel in a claim concerning the interpretation of a contract in the context of trademark law, involving a multinational manufacturer of consumer goods.
Employment
Hannah has extensive experience of advising in relation to claims concerning employee status, unfair dismissal, disability discrimination, sex discrimination and TUPE transfers. She has drafted schedules of loss and counter schedules of loss, including claims for loss of pension rights. She has provided advice in relation to prospects of appeal, and has assisted her supervisors in the preparation of skeleton arguments for the EAT.
Hannah recently assisted Patrick Green in the Supreme Court in Autoclenz v Belcher, an appeal involving employee and worker status.
Hannah is a qualified FRU representative, and has experience of both representing clients in the Employment Tribunal and in providing advice on compromise agreements.
Property
During pupillage, Hannah gained experience in relation a number of areas of property law, including boundary disputes, disrepair, breach of covenant, local authority housing allocation and the interpretation of easements.
She regularly appears in the County Court in contested actions for possession, both for claimants and defendants. She has experience in obtaining injunctions in relation to breaches of the landlord’s covenant of quiet enjoyment, and has represented clients in the Leasehold Valuation Tribunal regarding disputed service charges.
Public law
Hannah assisted her supervisor in relation to a claim brought by an inmate of HMPS, concerning the lawfulness of a national-level search policy within prisons.
She has advised on claims brought under the Equality Act 2010.
Hannah also has experience in advising on matters of public procurement and tender selection procedures. She has assisted in jury inquests at the Coroners Court.
Health and Safety and Product Liability
As a pupil, Hannah drafted written advices concerning health and safety prosecutions, sentencing and plea. She has also drafted pleadings and provided advice in relation to personal injury claims arising out of employers’ breaches of health and safety legislation.
Hannah has drafted pleadings and assisted her supervisor in a number of product liability claims.
